More filigrana en miniatura and other things...

Here are some photos of the new things I have been doing in silver. The first one is a ring with a moon stone. The second one is a bracelet with a marachite stone and the third one is a photo of earrings in the technique "filigrana en miniatura", these are my second pair, the first pair I posted a photo of last time...

We have recently arrived to Sweden and are setting up our working space here in Kalmar and still need to buy some things before we can start working....but hopefully there will be new jewellery soon, and I will try to update my homepage as well now that I am here (www.paulatagerud.se). Take care all!

Filigrana en miniatura

Here is a photo of the new earrings that I have made. The technique is called "filigrana en miniatura" here in Peru and is quite common in the north of the country. It is made with lots of small parts. It is a lot of fun but also time consuming :) I'm already working on my second pair.

Silver bracelet and a new ring

Here is the photo of the silver bracelet I just finished..finally...It took some time! Then a friend gave me a stone to make a ring with, in the style of the other ring that I made, but a little bit different. So this is a photo of the result as well.

Macrame necklace and more bracelets

This is a new macramé necklace with a tagua seed and two acaí seeds. The bracelets underneath are made with threads left over from various other works.

Macrame bracelets with natural stones

Though I´m taking a course in silversmithing I´m still doing my works in macramé as well :) Here are some new bracelets with natural stones from various places in South America.

Vårsalong

With some help from Sweden I now have two pieces of jewellery exhibited in "Vårsalongen", an exhibition in Pukeberg, Nybro which lasts another week from now. It´s a jury that has decided on various pieces of hand made crafts to exhibit for three weeks. If you are close by please take a look!

Learning to work with silver

I am now taking a course in working with silver. Here I will show what I've done so far...my first piece :) The first photo is off the "classroom" where we each have our own table to work on. The second photo is of the work in progress and the third photo is of the finished piece. It is made with silver 950 and the stone is a Rodacrosita from Argentina. The silver I have melted myself and mixed with 5% copper and then given the form and cut out the form of the butterfly and made the "box" to put the stone in, polished etc. Since I am taking the course here in Peru it is in Spanish and I don´t really know all the terms in English...But maybe the photos will speak for themselves ;)

New Jewellery

Here I am making some new jewellery before leaving Arequipa. We will be heading towards Lago Titicaca, Bolivia, Argentina and then to Chile, and we wanted to leave with the "asas" full off jewellery (mostly earrings). Here I am cutting "chapas" of bronze, copper and "alpaca" with which I make earrings and bracelets. I cut them with a special scissors, then I have to file and polish the peaces and then hammer with a round hammer to give it its texture. I then make the holes that are needed and place the stones etc. Quite a bit of work, but a lot of fun since it's my first time working with the material in this manner!
